About Andrew Young
MY WOODLAND JOURNEY
My journey into woodland photography began long before I ever held a camera. As a former member of 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery (7 Para RHA), I spent thirteen years working in demanding environments that required discipline, awareness, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Those experiences shaped the way I see the world — sharply, intentionally, and with an appreciation for detail.
Leaving the military brought a new chapter, and with it, the need for space, stillness, and purpose. I found all of that — and more — in the woodland.
What started as quiet walks quickly evolved into a deep connection with the forest. The way mist curls between the trees, the way light transforms the canopy, the subtle movement of ferns and shadows — these moments became a source of grounding and inspiration. Woodland photography gave me a way to translate the focus and resilience I learned in the military into something creative, peaceful, and deeply personal.
Today, through my woodland photography website, I share the images, techniques, and insights that come from countless hours spent among the trees. Whether you’re here to learn, to be inspired, or simply to escape into the calm of the forest, my aim is simple:
To help you see the woodland differently — through clarity, mood, and a deeper connection to nature.
This website isn’t just about photography; it’s about slowing down, finding balance, and discovering the quiet magic hidden in the woods. From practical guides, workshops to atmospheric images, everything here is shaped by my journey from soldier to photographer — two paths that taught me patience, observation, and the importance of being fully present.
Thank you for visiting.
I hope my work encourages you to explore the woodland with new eyes.
